An affordable gym?

I would love to go to Equinox, but then going out to eat would be out of the question. I already brown bag it to work.

I've been a member of NYSC and the rising prices also turn me off. Bally's just blows so I canceled my membership:

I read Time Out New York #643 (1/24 - 1/30) "Get Sane" this morning. In the letters to the editor section, there is a mention for a $50 PER YEAR fee ($75 for a pool) for a gym.

WHAAAAATTTT?
WHAAAAATTTT?

NYC Department of Parks & Recreation? I'm going to check this out.

Yes, the NYC Parks and Recreation Department has a select number of gyms and pools that you can join. Membership is relatively inexpensive, but as you can imagine the crowds are humongous.

I belonged to the Asser Levy recreation site some years back, and it was quite nice. 23rd Street & FDR Drive, if you're near the area.
